Washington, 20 April: This time is different. Many high-profile Twitter users are missing the blue tick marks that helped validate their identity and identify them from imposters on Elon Musk’s social media network.
After many false starts, Twitter finally started making good on its pledge to remove the blue checks from accounts that don’t pay a monthly charge to keep them on Thursday. Under the previous blue-check system, Twitter had approximately 300,000 verified users, many of whom were journalists, athletes, and public celebrities. Late in the morning Pacific Time, the checks began to vanish from these people’ profiles.
Beyonce, Pope Francis, and former President Donald Trump were among those who lost their blue checks on Thursday. The expenses of maintaining the marks range from USD 8 per month for individual online users to USD 1,000 per month to authenticate a company, plus USD 50 per month for each affiliate or staff account. Twitter does not verify individual accounts to guarantee they are who they claim to be, as was the case with the previous blue tick given out prior to Musk’s administration.
Many politicians from India like CM Yogi Adityanath’s bluetick badge has also been removed. In this list Rohit Sharama, Virat Kohli name is also present.
